LP1 Lincoln Birthplace Cent
The LP1 is the first one cent coin released for 2009. It features a log cabin on the reverse side commemorating the Kentucky Birthplace and early childhood of Abraham Lincoln from 1809 - 1816. The LP1 US Mint rolls are sold out at the US Mint and have already become a very valuable collectible.
Final LP1 production figures will be posted early in 2010.
An unopened box of LP1 rolls from the US Mint is a must have for the serious coin collector. The earliest dated LP1 box I believe I saw on eBay was 2/23/09. Please correct me if I am wrong and send along photo. These sealed boxes can be found for sale on eBay.
The US Mint boxes contain one roll of "P" (Philadelphia Mint) and one roll of "D" (Denver Mint) coins. It's pretty amazing that $1.00 worth of 2009 pennies now sell for around $100. on eBay.
